RIP Sugar Minott

Jamaican reggae singer Sugar Minott began his music career in 1969 by joining The African Brothers. In the start of 1970s his band released many singles. Other band member were Derrick Howard and Tony Tuff and the released these singles on their own Ital label and Micron. In 1974, his band worked for producer Rupie Edwards and recorded "Mysterious Nature". After that for studio one, they recorded "No Cup No Broke" and it was done shortly before their separation. Beres Hammond Show at the NOLA HOB reviewed by "The Resista"

Beres Hammond came to the NOLA Hose of Blues on last Friday Night and I was able to catch this show but you should have been there too becasue you missed a meeting with a master singer and producer and band of Rockers and Beautiful background singers called Harmony House. The Singers called Culture started the show .

I was flying the easy star flag up at the front of the house. I saw a lot of Rastas there and some bald heads too. The show was kicking, and I like the way you can get so close at the HOB that you can hear the singers foot falls on the stage. Especially at  Berese's set you could hear his feet smaking the floor as he danced his way though his set memerising every one in the house. The guy is a jumping jack and hard to get a picture of. He moves like a blur. The volume of the audience singing along sometimes exceeded Beres on the house PA. Everyone knew the words to his songs.

It was a one universial love evening as he broght out one after another of his young artist friends. The lead up was big and when Beres hit the stage the whole house let out a cheer the King of Lovers Rock hit the HOB statege. I think you should make it your business to come to the next Reggae show coming to HOB and that is Lee Perry on the 2nd of Sept.

See you there!

Here are some pictures.

Legend has it,during the exceptionally hot summer of 1966,patrons of Jamaican dancehalls had a hard time keeping up with the hectic pace of ska,so producers began slowing down the tempo to produce rocksteady

Bobby Aitken is often credited as recording the first rocksteady disc, which was also notable in it's use of electric bass as opposed to the stand up acoustic bass predominate in ska.More on that later.Let's get to the music! Producer Duke Reid, owner of Treasure Isle Studios, was undisputed champion of the rocksteady era.Groups like the Melodians,The Techniques,The Silvertones and Paragons recorded there:
