RIP Yabby You

Yabby You isn't the biggest name in roots reggae, but as an artist and producer he generated a body of work that measures up well next to the work of giants like Burning Spear, the Abyssinians, and Culture.

Born Vivian Jackson, Yabby was in his twenties when he first took to the producer's chair at Channel One Studios and cut the deep roots trilogy of Conquering Lion, Walls of Jerusalem, and Deliver Me from My Enemies, a formidable set of albums that established his decidedly sparse and rhythmically steady sound. Yabby You started his career in music in end of the 1960's with the band "Sons of Negus". During the 1970's, he was working with producer such as King Tubby but also as producer. In this time, Yabby You has produced artist such as Big Youth, Tapper Zukie or Dillinger. But, he was before all a wonderful and talented vocalist.

Another great voice of reggae music is passed away. Another great producer of Jamaican music is gone away. Vivian Jackson more well knows under the name Yabby You, Jesus Dread or Youth I-An is dead yesterday 12th January in Clarendon, Jamaica. He was 63 years old.
